AXE CENTRAL DE PEKIN

Agence Ter, alongside Tondji Institute and AND architecture, was selected as one of the three winners of the competition “Imagine the southern extension of the central axis of Beijing”, organized by the Beijing Territories office, and the Fengtai and Dongcheng Municipalities.
The central axis of Beijing has guided the development of the city for the past 800 years. In recent decades, urban growth has expanded the city outside its historical boundaries and beyond the established axis. Its extension has several main objectives; firstly, it aims to organize urban development towards the new Beijing International Airport to the south of the city. As a move towards a new ecological civilization, it must form the groundwork for sustainable urbanism. Finally, as an integration of the historical axis into the modern development of the metropolis, it will support an application for the inscription of the axis on the UNESCO World Heritage list.
